Short Drama Coins Explained: What a Series Really Costs

How coin systems work on ReelShort, DramaBox and GoodShort — why episodes get pricier toward the finale, and the simple math for finishing a series.

Vertical drama apps don’t sell episodes one by one. They sell coins — an in-app currency — and each locked episode costs a set number of coins to unlock. The first several episodes of every series are free (usually around ten, though the exact number varies by title, app and region), and the coin cost per episode typically climbs as you get closer to the finale.

Where coins come from

You buy coin packs inside the app, or on the app’s website where available. Web purchases often stretch further than in-app purchases on iOS/Android, because the app stores take a cut that gets passed on to you. Check both before you buy.

Subscriptions vs coins

Most of the big apps also offer a monthly subscription that unlocks everything. The rough rule of thumb:

  • One series at a time? A coin pack sized for a single show is usually cheaper than a month of subscription.
  • Two or more full series a month? The subscription starts to win.
  • Just browsing? Rotate the free opening episodes across apps — every series gives you the setup arc free, which is enough to know whether you care about the payoff.

Three rules before you spend

  1. Check the free-episode count first — it varies by app and by title.
  2. Finish what you start before starting something new — half-watched series are where coins go to die.
  3. Prices change often — confirm the current coin prices and subscription rates in the app before committing.
